From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The heavy bass of "Poker Face" vibrates through the shop windows of SoHo, competing with the screech of yellow cabs and the click of my shutter as I frame a girl in oversized sunglasses and neon leggings. Everyone is staring down at their shiny new iPhones, ignoring the grit of the city because, as the saying goes, "there's an app for that" now. I duck into a bodega where a headline about Chinese coal mines sits untouched next to a display of robotic hamsters. The air smells of cheap exhaust and roasting nuts, a sharp contrast to the glossy pop stars plastered over every newsstand this spring afternoon.
