From the day

Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound

The radio is blaring *So What* by Pink for the tenth time today, and I swear, if I hear her bratty "na-na-na" one more time while I’m staring at the $3.27 gas pump, I’m going to lose it altogether. Between the soaring price of bread and the Mets choking away their season, the city feels like it's vibrating with a nervous, frantic energy that no new gadget from the App Store can fix. Seeing that high-tech Wall-E animatronic in the shop window made me let out a tiny, involuntary squee, but the joy died fast when I checked my dwindling bank balance. Everyone’s hovering over their screens with grim faces, and I can’t help but wonder if we’re all just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
