From the day
Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound
The radio is blaring Katy Perry’s latest hook while I stare at the rising price on the gas pump, chest tightening as the digits tick past four dollars. Everything feels sketchy lately, especially with the news about those massive dream homes hitting the auction block because nobody can afford the mortgage anymore. I catch a glimpse of a kid in the next car clutching a Wall-E Animatronic and letting out a high-pitched "squee" as the little robot chirps and whirs over the traffic. It’s a cute sound, but all I can hear is the drain on my wallet and the looming fear that we're all just living on borrowed time.
