From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight
The glare of the midday sun bounces off a sea of low-rise jeans and oversized plastic sunglasses as I frame a group of scene kids posing outside the subway. Behind them, a newsstand flyer screams about the sinking debt of retail giants, but I’m more bothered by the bodega clerk charging me $1.37 for a basic loaf of bread; it’s enough to make a guy miss his old spots. I catch the reflection of a neon-pink Razr phone in a puddle, the girl holding it humming a Mariah Carey hook while her peeps check their reflection in a storefront window. The air smells of cheap cologne and city exhaust, a grainy Monday morning frozen in the amber of my viewfinder.
