From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight
The glare of the streetlights hits the damp pavement, catching the sheen of some kid’s oversized hoodie as Flo Rida’s "Low" thumps from a passing sedan. I squint through my viewfinder at a makeshift art space nearby, clutching a newspaper with the headline "No Windows, No Heat, No Staff, No Rent. This Is a Gallery?" and laughing at the sheer audacity of this city. Seeing a guy pull out a sleek, new touch-screen phone to snap a blurry photo of a peeling poster makes me rofl; he thinks he’s an artist, but he’s missing the way the winter fog softens the neon silhouettes. I adjust my focus, capturing the raw grit of the empty storefront before the light changes and the moment vanishes.
