From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The cold morning air bites at my hands as I adjust the focal ring, my fingers numb against the matte plastic of a passerby’s brand new iPhone. I catch a group of teens in low-rise denim and thick hoodies huddled near the subway entrance, their faces glowing in the LCD light while "No One" by Alicia Keys blares from a tinny speaker nearby. The scene feels slightly sketchy with the smog thickening over the yellow cabs, but I’m focused on the texture of a wool pea coat brushing past my lens. Everything is moving too fast toward the new year, captured in the sharp grain of high-speed film and the smell of roasting chestnuts.
