From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The humid August heat clings to the polyester sheen of a passing teenager’s skinny jeans, his hands fumbling with a sleek, glass-faced iPhone that reflects the harsh noon sun. I adjust my viewfinder, watching a group of kids crack up over some digital clip on their screens; one yells "rofl" so loud it echoes off the brickwork, their laughter drowned out by a nearby radio blaring Sean Kingston’s "Beautiful Girls." Lurking in the tech shops, the buzz about the new Kindle and the whispered announcement of Android feels like a shift in the very fabric of the sidewalk. I can almost feel the weight of these gadgets in the air, a metallic tug against the old-world grain of my film, changing the way these people hold their bodies and hide their eyes.
