From the day
Perspective: The Teenager · Tactile
I’m sweating through my cheap polyester polo, desperately trying to get the glossy, cold glass of this new iPhone to recognize my thumb so I can show off the *Umbrella* music video. Everyone at the mall is acting like a total newbie, but if my manager catches me texting under the counter one more time, he’ll definitely scream “you’re fired” in front of the whole food court. I just keep rubbing my finger over that seamless, futuristic screen, feeling worlds away from the smoky smell of those forest fires drifting over the parking lot. Everything feels high-tech and slick tonight, like I’m finally touching the actual future instead of just another plastic gadget.
