From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The damp morning fog clings to the rough denim and polyester hoodies of the crowd huddled outside the Cingular store, their fingers twitching to touch that sleek, cold glass of the new iPhone prototype. I lean against a brick wall, my thumb smoothing the grainy leather of my camera strap as I eye a discarded newspaper headline about how turmoil grows for Wolfowitz at World Bank; it seems the tribe has spoken and his time is up. The air smells of wet pavement and expensive espresso, a sharp contrast to the grit of the subway grates. Everyone is looking for a connection, but they’re mostly staring into their palms, waiting for the future to arrive in a pocket-sized glow of brushed aluminum.
