From the day
Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sight
The neon glow of the shop windows reflects off the wet pavement, highlighting a world getting far too expensive; $1.12 for a basic loaf of bread feels like a robbery I can't escape. My eyes dart from the newspaper headlines about solitary readers to a sleek flyer for the upcoming iPhone and Kindle, making me sweat over how much more tech I’ll have to buy just to keep up. I need to head home and check my messages, so brb, but I can’t stop staring at the silhouette of a kid in a puffy North Face jacket clutching a new Android prototype. Everything is shifting toward screens and high-priced gadgets, and I’m just trying to afford the gas to get through this winter.
