From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The rhythmic pulse of Justin Timberlake’s "My Love" thumps from a passing silver SUV, vibrating against the oversized plastic shopping bags clutched by frantic crowds. I’m framing a shot of a teenager in a studded belt and neon-pink hair when he suddenly spots a store display and shouts, "omg, is that the last Nintendo Wii in the window?" The shutter clicks on his look of pure, unadulterated longing before he vanishes into the gray sludge of the humid afternoon sidewalk. Everything smells like exhaust and fried turkey, a chaotic symphony of holiday hustle that I’m trying to freeze in 35mm.
