From the day

Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound

The local news is shouting about some $200 million art gift, but all I hear is the literal "Temperature" by Sean Paul rattling the trunk of the rusted sedan idling next to me at the light. Gas just hit $2.27 a gallon and I’m sweating the math, especially with my nephew begging for that new Nintendo Wii that’s supposed to be out later this year. Between the static on the radio and the "truthiness" of these politicians on the 24-hour cycle, my head is spinning. Everyone’s talking about this "Twitter" thing online, but the only reality I know is the rising price of a loaf of bread and the constant, rhythmic thump of subwoofers vibrating my rearview mirror.
