From the day
Perspective: The Teenager · Sound
I’m hunched over in the backseat, my skinny jeans cutting into my waist as the tinny, high-pitched hook of "Gold Digger" blasts through my foam headphones for the tenth time today. The roar of the freeway is a constant hum, broken only by my brother arguing about how many more shifts he needs to work to afford that new Xbox 360 when it drops next week. Everything about this family road trip feels totally sketchy, especially with the way the wind whistles through the windows while Mom obsesses over the Google Maps printouts. I just lean my head against the cold glass, tuning out her voice to let Kanye’s beat drown out the world.
