From the day

Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound

The radio is mourning with Mario’s "Let Me Love You" while I stare at the rising $2.27 gas prices, wondering how anyone can afford those oversized sunglasses and Ugg boots anymore. The rumble of construction is constant now that developers are lunging for the Far West Side, turning the gritty streets into a loud, dusty gold mine for the elite. I can’t even escape the noise at the electronics store, where some wide-eyed newbie is bragging about their leaked Xbox 360 rumors over the static of a flickering TV. It feels like every dollar for bread is being squeezed out of us just to keep up with this high-tech, layered boho-chic world.
