From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The July humidity clings to New York like a damp polyester jersey, making my camera strap chafe against the back of my neck. I watch a kid in baggy cargo shorts lean against a graffitied wall, his thumbs frantic against the hinge of a sleek Nintendo DS while the sharp scent of street cart pretzels cuts through the exhaust. The heavy denim of his oversized jacket looks sweltering, but he doesn't budge, completely lost in the twin glowing screens. His friends jeer at him to turn it off and move along, but his glare says it all—the tribe has spoken.
