From the day

Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sight

The July sun glares off the neon yellow *Bad Boys II* poster, but I’m glued to the headlines about these gifted young athletes being lured away by big money while gas creeps up to a staggering $1.51. My sister won’t stop playing that Beyoncé track she bought for ninety-nine cents on the new iTunes Store, her chunky highlights shimmering as she dances, completely oblivious to how expensive everything is becoming. I’m staring at a display for Blu-ray discs wondering who can actually afford luxury tech when a loaf of bread is over a dollar now. I tried to warn my peeps about the rising costs and this weird Skype thing making us reachable 24/7, but they just laughed and said "the tribe has spoken" before heading back to the mall.
