I’m sitting in my room with 50 Cent’s "21 Questions" pulsing through my tinny desktop speakers while I wait for a 99-cent track to finally finish downloading from the iTunes Store. The house is a cacophony of dial-up static and the whir of my brother’s new Blu-ray player, but I’ve got my headphones clamped tight to block out the world. I check my buddy list to see who’s away, wishing my crush would get on Skype so we could actually talk instead of just typing "brb" every five minutes. Every girl at the mall is trying to look totally scene with those choppy layers, but I’m just horizontal on my bed, staring at the ceiling and wondering if the bass is loud enough to rattle the floorboards.
