From the day
Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sight
The glare from the electronics store window is blinding, showcasing a new Blu-ray player that costs more than my monthly rent. I can barely focus on the screen with the news ticker blaring about a wealthy Democrat radio takeover and gas hitting a terrifying $1.51 a gallon. Someone nearby is shouting into a headset about their new Skype account, giving way too much personal info—honestly, tmi for a public sidewalk. I just keep my eyes down, clutching my knockoff velour tracksuit and humming that J.Lo song, wondering if I can afford to buy it on the iTunes Store or if I'm broke for good.
