From the day

Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound

The roar of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” keeps thumping through my neighbor’s thin walls, competing with the plastic clatter of my kid’s new Beyblades on the linoleum. Everything feels so fragile and expensive; I just saw gas hit $1.51 at the pump, and now everyone is buzzing about these new camera phones like we’re living in a sci-fi movie. Omg, I’m supposed to be setting up a Friendster profile, but I’m too busy watching that Roomba vacuum bump into my baseboards like a confused robot. Between the frantic news and the cost of bread creeping up, I just want to hide in a dark theater for the new *Lord of the Rings* and forget that the world is changing this fast.
