From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The damp pavement reflects the neon glare of a movie poster for *Panic Room*, while the local peeps crowd the sidewalk in their oversized denim and velour tracksuits. My fingers are calloused from winding film, but I pause to watch a group of kids kneeling on the gritty asphalt, the sharp clatter of their spinning Beyblades echoing against the brick. The molded plastic of those tops feels cheap compared to the heavy chrome of my camera, yet the frantic sparks they strike capture the restless energy of this Saturday night. I adjust my focus as a woman in a low-rise skirt hurries past, the scent of her vanilla perfume mixing with the exhaust of a city still waking up.
