From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The heavy bass of J.Lo and Ja Rule’s "Murder Remix" thumps from a passing silver Jetta, vibrating the lens of my Leica as I frame a shot of the new Avalon high-rise rising over Long Island City. I catch a group of kids on the corner frantically ripping Beyblades into the concrete, their baggy cargo pants dragging through the Saint Paddy's Day dust. I glance at the gas station sign across the street, scoffing at the $1.51 per gallon; it feels like theft when I’m just trying to get to a gig. One kid spots my old-school film setup and jokes that he’s seen a "camera phone" online that’ll make me obsolete—rofl, as if a tiny screen could ever capture this grit.
