From the day
Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound
The radio is blaring Nickelback for the tenth time today, and honestly, the rasp of it is starting to grate on my nerves as much as these New Year’s gas prices. I watched some newbie at the diner try to show off his new camera phone, but it looked like a sketchy gadget that’ll probably break before he even figures out how to join Friendster. The neighbor’s house is a racket of spinning Beyblades and the weird whir of that Roomba vacuum, a constant hum that makes me twitchy about where the world is headed. Between the Jets falling apart and the cost of bread creeping up, I’m just trying to tune out the noise and stay under the radar.
