From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The heavy humidity of mid-May clings to the crowd lining Fifth Avenue, a sea of low-rise denim and chunky heels waiting ninety minutes to glimpse Jackie’s pillbox hats at the Met. I adjust my shutter speed as a taxi rattles past blaring Janet Jackson’s "All For You," the bass thumping against the pavement where some wide-eyed newbie is struggling with a clunky film advance. Across the street, a massive neon billboard for *Shrek* casts a lime-green glow over the sidewalk, and I can hear a kid nearby begging for one of those bug-eyed Bratz dolls. My viewfinder catches a flash of pearls against a sweat-stained t-shirt, the perfect shot of old-world grace meeting this gritty, digital-bound spring afternoon.
