From the day
Perspective: The Teenager · Sound
The static on my Discman finally clears as that funky "All for You" groove kicks in, and I'm nodding along while my chunky platform sneakers thud against the pavement. I hear a group of girls near the 7-Eleven arguing over which Bratz doll is the hottest, their voices shrill over the low hum of a passing sedan that smells like cheap $1.51 gasoline. I just rolled my eyes and kept walking because honestly, the tribe has spoken and I’m way too bored for their middle school drama. My head is full of the tinny, digital chirps of a Nokia ringtone and the screech of a bus air brake, drowning out everything else.
