From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The flash of my Leica catches the sheen of a velour Juicy Couture track suit as a girl zips past on a silver Razor scooter, the cold aircraft-grade aluminum rattling against the cracked pavement. I pause by a rusted pump, grimacing at the glowing digits showing gas at a staggering $1.51 a gallon, wondering if I’ll have enough left for a pack of film. Low-rise denim hangs dangerously low on the hips of the passing crowd, revealing thin straps of thongs that match the metallic shine of their butterfly clips. Santana’s "Maria Maria" blares from a nearby car window, drowning out the click of my shutter; the tribe has spoken, and this high-gloss, skin-baring spring is officially here to stay.
