From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The heavy humidity of mid-September clings to the oversized cargo pants and bucket hats of the kids loitering near the theater entrance, their eyes glued to shiny Charizards instead of the traffic. A silver Lexus drifts past blasting "Unpretty" by TLC, the bass line rattling my viewfinder while I frame a shot of a businessman shouting into a clunky new BlackBerry. I’m trying to capture the grit of the pavement, but these tourists are trippin' if they think they can just pose in the middle of a busy sidewalk without getting cursed out. The air smells of cheap exhaust and hot asphalt, a sharp contrast to the digital hum of a city obsessed with Napster and the looming turn of the century.
