From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile

The damp wool of my thrifted overcoat itches against my neck as I lean against the brick, watching the neon flicker over a line of kids obsessed with shiny Pokémon cards. My hands are numb from the early spring chill, but I’ve got my finger ready on the shutter to capture a kid in a floor-length leather trench coat who looks like he just stepped out of *The Matrix*. Grainy news of the Balkan air strikes bleeds from a corner radio, casting a heavy shadow over the street's consumerist buzz. The boy stares into my lens with such pale, haunting intensity that I almost expect him to whisper, "I see dead people," before he disappears into the crowd.
