From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The slush on Broadway muffles the bass of Monica’s "Angel of Mine" drifting from a passing sedan, while a suit nearby stares intensely at his new BlackBerry as if it’s a crystal ball. My fingers are frozen, but I’m hunting for the perfect shot—maybe a kid clutching a fresh pack of Pokémon cards or a silhouette against the glow of a store window advertising that new Wi-Fi and the sorcery of Bluetooth. I catch a guy in a trench coat looking so pale and haunted by the Midtown wind that I mutter "I see dead people" under my breath before snapping the shutter. Everyone’s distracted anyway, probably rushing home to spend all night on Napster while the city’s grit settles over the empty stage doors where the Graham dancers used to leap.
