From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The humid August air vibrates with Brandy and Monica’s rivalry blaring from a passing lowrider, nearly drowning out the clicks of my shutter as I frame a kid in baggy denim eyeing the neon-blue iMac G3 in the shop window. He’s clutching a new Rio MP3 player like it’s gold, probably downloading tracks from that new Google Search thing people keep whispering about at the bodega. Some poser in a stiff suit shoves past us, oblivious to the sirens echoing from the housing projects where the mood has turned jagged after the recent shooting. I just keep my eye to the viewfinder, capturing the grit of the sidewalk before the world moves on.
