From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight
The flashbulbs from my Leica can’t compete with the neon glow of the Times Square marquee, where that sleek silver robot from *Lost in Space* towers over the sidewalk, making the whole city feel like a pressurized cockpit. I’m framing a shot of a girl in a platform-soled sneaker and a translucent windbreaker; she’s got a K-Ci & JoJo tape cranked so loud in her Walkman that even the pigeons are vibrating. The club kids are already getting crunk near the newsstand, their silhouettes cutting through the steam rising from the grates. I snap a frame of a discarded Sunday Times headline about harassment lawsuits, just as a yellow cab splashes through a puddle of technicolor light.
