From the day

Perspective: The Teenager · Sound

The heavy bass of Michael Jackson’s "You Are Not Alone" thumps through my headphones, but it’s the guy behind me on the bus shouting some "No soup for you!" joke that’s actually killing my vibe. I’m adjusting my plaid mini-skirt and cinching my tiny backpack tight, trying to ignore the screeching traffic while I obsessively flip through my stack of Pogs. We’re heading to the second screening of *Mortal Kombat* because the techno theme song is literally the only thing getting me through this heat. Missing out on the matinee price is totally lame, but hearing that "Techno Syndrome" track blast through the theater speakers is going to be worth every bit of my chore money.
