From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The cold Midtown wind bites through my oversized flannel, but the light hitting the sidewalk is perfect for a snap. I watch a kid in a puffy polyester starter jacket squeeze a plush, purple Barney doll, the synthetic fur matted and cheap against his sticky fingers. The bodega clerk just barked at me as I fished out seventy cents for a loaf of white bread, fuming that a single buck barely covers a snack anymore. It’s a crunk scene today, with Whitney’s voice wailing from a passing sedan’s speakers while I focus my lens on the rough wool of a businessman’s overcoat.
