From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The scratchy wool of a thrifted flannel chafes against my neck as I crouch for the shot, my fingers tracing the rugged, cold eyelets of my Doc Martens. I’m framing a kid on the corner who is clutching a plastic Super Nintendo box like it’s made of solid gold, though the grey plastic feels cheap and hollow compared to the heavy grit of this sidewalk. Nelson’s "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection" blares from a passing hatchback, the sugary hair-metal harmonies acting as a complete buzzkill to the raw, unkempt scene I’m trying to capture. I adjust my lens, focusing on the frayed edges of his ripped denim and the way the autumn wind whips through his thin thermal knit.
