From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight

The July humidity clings to the heavy flannel shirts of the kids loitering outside the department store, their ripped jeans fraying against the pavement as they stare at the flickering televisions in the window. One boy's eyes are glued to the vibrant, 16-bit colors of the new Super Nintendo, his thumbs twitching as if he's already gripping the grey controller. I frame the shot through my Leica, capturing the sharp contrast of a velvet choker against a girl's pale neck while her friend rants about some guy trippin' over a broken heart. Behind them, a discarded newspaper proclaims that even NASA’s over-complicated space station dreams are crashing back to earth, but on this gritty sidewalk, the only stars that matter are the ones glowing in the arcade glow.
