From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound

The cold snap bites through my thermal knit, but the light hitting these DC streets is too crisp to ignore. Paula Abdul’s voice blares from a passing hatchback, competing with the grit of a newsie shouting about Mayor Barry’s indictment while I frame a shot of a kid in a phat pair of Doc Martens. I pause at the corner station, grimacing as the pump clicks at $1.16 a gallon; I’d rather spend that scratch on another roll of film than feed the tank. Everyone’s buzzing about some new "Photoshop" software, but as long as the sidewalk stays this beautifully unkempt, I’ll stick to the darkroom.
