From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight
The flashbulbs of my Nikon catch a woman in a bad oversized blazer as she pauses beneath a glowing Broadway marquee, her silhouette glowing against the neon rain. The theater district is buzzing with talk of high ticket prices, but all I see is the way the streetlights smear across the wet pavement like liquid gold. I duck past a gas station where the sign reads $1.12, realizing I’ll have to skip lunch if I want enough fuel to drive out to the bridge for the city skyline shot. Up ahead, a kid huddled in a doorway is obsessed with a grey plastic Game Boy, the tiny screen flickering with a digital world that's far more chill than this biting December wind.
