From the day
Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound
The static on the radio is driving me mad, cutting right through Richard Marx’s "Right Here Waiting" while I fret over paying over a buck a gallon for gas just to get to work. My neighbor is bragging about some "World Wide Web" proposal that's supposed to connect us all, but honestly, the screech of my kid’s new Game Boy is the only tech I can hear, and it’s costing me a fortune in batteries. Everything feels so high-strung, yet I caught myself staring at a civilian GPS unit in the shop window today, wondering if knowing exactly where we are would make the world feel less chaotic. It’s "awesome" in theory, I guess, but between the rising price of bread and the noise of this city, I just want some peace.
