From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The heavy humidity of June clings to the concrete, competing with the screech of yellow taxis and the faint, digital chirp of a kid playing a brand-new Game Boy on the subway stairs. I pivot my Leica toward a girl in a neon windbreaker whose sneakers look incredibly fresh against the grime of the sidewalk. Bette Midler’s "Wind Beneath My Wings" drifts out from a nearby drugstore’s speakers, that soaring chorus swelling over the roar of the midday traffic. I catch the light reflecting off a shop window, snapping the shutter just as the scent of hot pretzels and diesel exhaust fills the air.
