From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
I squint through the viewfinder at a kid clutching a brand-new Game Boy, his thumbs dancing over the cold, grey plastic of the handheld’s D-pad. The humid April air clings to his oversized denim jacket and the rough wool of my camera strap, while the nearby chalky textures of a folk art exhibit poster provide the perfect backdrop for a shot. I catch my reflection in the window of a Texaco, grimacing at the $1.12 scrawled on the gas pump; honestly, prices like that just make me want to say, "barf me out." I adjust my focus, capturing the way the morning light hits the gritty pavement and the neon nylon windbreakers of the commuters rushing toward the subway.
