From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The sun catches the harsh sheen of a girl’s oversized satin bomber jacket as she poses on the corner, her fingers nervously smoothing the stiff denim of her high-waisted jeans. I adjust the focus on my Leica, capturing the way her heavy hairspray catches the morning light while she hums the chorus of "Inside," that INXS track that seems to be bleeding out of every storefront radio today. The city feels gritty and tactile, a mess of rough brickwork and the smooth, waxed wood of the Jenga blocks a street performer is stacking nearby with trembling precision. This shot is totally going to capture the mood: that polished, corporate greed sliding right up against the raw, restless energy of a Saturday in May.
