Perspective: The Teenager · Sound
The static on my boombox finally gives way to the opening synth of "Like a Virgin," and I turn it up until the bass rattles my bedroom window. Between the thumping pop beats, I can hear the dull roar of my dad’s sedan pulling into the driveway and the screech of tires from kids down the street. I’m hunched over on the carpet, desperately trying to get past the first level of *Super Mario Bros.* on my new Nintendo Entertainment System. The 8-bit chip-tunes are honestly so awesome, but if I hear that "game over" chime one more time, I’m going to lose my mind.
