From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound

The flash of my Nikon catches a flash of neon Spandex and a pair of grey leg warmers bounding past a gas station sign where the price just hit a steep $1.19. George Michael is wailing "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" from a passing boombox, the upbeat rhythm clashing with the gritty hum of Sunday traffic and the distant, muffled cheers of the game on every shop radio. I frame a shot of a kid clutching a plastic Transformer, his oversized sweatshirt dwarfing his frame, while his father grumbles that the new neon signage looks way too cheesy for this neighborhood. It’s all layers and sweat out here today, a frantic, athletic pulse echoing through the chilly November air.
