From the day

Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound

The radio is blaring Van Halen’s "Jump" so loud the speakers rattle, but I can still hear the shouting outside about the Salvation Army losing those city contracts. Everything feels twitchy and expensive today; I just handed over **$0.50** for a single loaf of bread and nearly choked on the cost. My cousin thinks this new Macintosh computer is going to be bodacious, but all I see is more tech to track us while prices keep climbing. I pulled my oversized sweatshirt tight against the chill, trying to drown out the news and the humming of the neon signs with my walkman.
