From the day
Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound
The static on my radio is driving me mad, but Lionel Richie’s "All Night Long" blares from every shop doorway, a cheerful contrast to the $1.19 gas price staring me down at the pump. Everyone’s losing their minds over those bald Cabbage Patch Kids, acting *as if* a lumpy doll is worth a fistfight at the department store while the "oldest elderly" are supposedly getting new city help we can't afford. I can barely hear myself think over the rhythmic *clack-clack* of my neighbor testing that new Microsoft Word program through the thin walls. Between the terrifying price of a fifty-cent loaf of bread and the looming shadow of this new "Internet" standard, I’m just trying to stay chill before the world changes too fast to recognize.
