From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
I’m squinting through my viewfinder at a businessman leaning against a brick wall, his fingers white-knuckling a massive Motorola DynaTAC 8000X as he shouts over the city noise. The textured wool of his overcoat looks stiff against the greasy slush, a stark contrast to the soft, dimpled vinyl of the Cabbage Patch Kid a nearby child is dragging through the grody puddles. Upstairs in the office window, a secretary taps away at a new program called Microsoft Word, her hands moving in a rhythm that feels worlds away from the invisible pulses of this new TCP/IP internet standard quietely linking the world. I adjust my focus, catching the glint of chrome on a passing car and the dusty weave of a sidewalk vendor’s scarf.
