From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The slush on 42nd Street ruins the hem of every velour tracksuit that struts past my lens, a gritty contrast to the neon spandex flashing under open trench coats. I adjust my focus as a young girl clutches a new My Little Pony, its synthetic, candy-scented mane a shock of pink against the cold, gray pavement. "Centerfold" blares from a passing Cadillac’s boombox, the jaunty whistle cutting through the damp air while I frame a shot of a street vendor hawking knock-off statues. I lean against a brick wall, watching a kid point a spindly finger at the sky and mutter "E.T. phone home" to his bored mother.
