From the day

Perspective: The Teenager · Sound

I’m hunched over my Rubik’s Cube while Paul McCartney blasts "Coming Up" on the transistor, but the constant screech of the neighbors’ new fax machine keeps ruining my rhythm. My older brother is obsessed with some boring Nasdaq news on the radio, claiming the shrinking spreads are a big deal, but I just want to drown out the noise and talk about how **The Empire Strikes Back †** is the only thing worth a buck-twenty in gas to go see again. I adjusted my neon sweatband, wishing my perm looked half as **bad** as the guys in the magazines. If I can just solve this plastic puzzle before my mom makes me turn down the volume, tonight will be totally awesome.
