I’m leaning against the lockers, my palms sweating against the slick, plastic sides of this Rubik’s Cube while Blondie’s "Call Me" pulses through my headphones. My oversized denim jacket feels heavy and stiff, but the neon Lycra leggings underneath give me just enough stretch to look fly while I struggle to twist these colorful rows into place.
The rough texture of the stickers catches on my thumb as I watch the preppy girls walk by, their hair held high with hairspray and their massive shoulder pads making them look like linebackers. It’s totally cheesy how everyone is obsessing over those young stockmarket kids in the news, so I just click the cube into position and try to chill.
