From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound

The shutter clicks just as a real sheba in a cloche hat struts past, her silk stockings shimmering against the grimy sidewalk of 42nd Street. Above the roar of the Duesenberg engines, a tinny car radio is blaring "Singin' in the Rain," competing with the hollering newsboys hawking headlines about the hypocrites in Congress. I lean against a brick wall, thumbing my last few coins and cursing that it now costs a full $0.30 just to put a gallon of gas in the Ford. This city is a loud, expensive racket, but through my dark mass-produced spectacles, the grit and the glamour look like a masterpiece.
