From the day

Perspective: The Teenager · Sound

The scratchy needle on the Victrola is beltin’ out "The Sheik of Araby," and I’m tryin’ to drown out Pop’s constant bellyachin’ about freight rates and the price of coal. I took a stroll down to the shop earlier and saw some little flapper-in-training clutching a brand new Raggedy Andy, and honestly, that doll’s yarn hair is a total riot. I spotted a real sheba near the soda fountain, lookin' like a million bucks while the street traffic roared like a pack of lions. If Pop doesn’t stop his "big cheese" routine about the family budget soon, I’m gonna hop a trolley and find where the real noise is.
